JAKARTA: All Malaysians in Lombok are reportedly safe following the deadly magnitude 7 earthquake which struck the Indonesian tourist island last night.
Malaysia’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Zamshari Shaharan, said the embassy managed to contact and confirm the safety of 84 Malaysians at several locations in Lombok, as of this morning.
“They are reported to be safe. (We) also managed to contact Malaysian students studying in Bali (who are also) safe,” he said.
The 6.46pm earthquake centred in northern Lombok was also felt in Sumbawa, Bali and east Java.
The Malaysian embassy has advised citizens on the island to take shelter in safe locations and avoid high risk areas. --Bernama
