Unsanitary 'ikan bakar' outlet, four food factories ordered shut in Penang

KEPALA BATAS: A famous ikan bakar (grilled fish) restaurant and four food processing factories in North Seberang Perai here were ordered closed for two weeks after being found unsanitary by the Penang Health Department.

Its enforcement team found raw food items placed on the floors of the factories, as well as rat faeces and cockroaches at all of the premises during the operation dubbed ‘Op Pulau Pinang Sihat’ which began at 8.30am today.

“Two factories were in Lahar Kepar. They processed laksa noodles and kueh teow.

“One factory in Kepala Batas processed bread; while the fourth, located in Sungai Puyu, produced soy sauce.

“A famous grilled fish restaurant in Kepala Batas was also ordered closed for being filthy,” state Health director Datuk Dr Wan Mansor Hamzah told a press conference here.
