Wong Siew Ki is DAP's Balakong by-election candidate

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP announced its Serdang Wanita deputy chief Wong Siew Ki as candidate for the upcoming Balakong state seat by-election.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in announcing her candidacy said, DAP will be using the Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo for the by-election.

Speaking to reporters at the party headquaters, here, he said fielding Wong received the consent of PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as the party leadership and its election steering committee.

The Balakong seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee in an accident at KM11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.

In GE14, Ng retained his Balakong seat for the second term after defeating Lim Chin Wah from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali (PAS) with a 35,538-vote majority.

The Election Commission (EC) set nomination day for the by-election on Aug 18, and polling day on Sept 8.

DAP Selangor chairman, Tony Pua said he hoped the voters of Balakong would come out in full force to support Wong, 32, and the good work done by the late Ng.

"I hope all the voters will support DAP and PH, especially for the work done in the constituency. We hope to see a maximum voter turnout," he said.

Meanwhile, Wong said she was very happy for the trust the party had in her in selecting her as a candidate.

"I am not only contesting to win but to also continue the good work done by the late Eddie Ng," she said at the same press conference.

Wong who is also a Subang Jaya Municipal Council member said she would be resigning from the post with immediate effect.
