KUALA LUMPUR: A total 4.4 per cent or 2,123 teachers were identified as experiencing moderate stress level last year, said Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
He said this was recorded based on a study conducted by the ministry involving 48,258 respondents among the teachers.
“The study found that the stress was caused by various factors such as family matters, financial, management, workload, not appreciated, lack of skills in carrying out tasks as well as they were not trained to deal with stress,” he said in reply to Senator Datuk Zahari Sarip during question-and-answer at Dewan Negara today.
Zahari had asked on the statistics and evidence that teachers nowadays were stressed and depressed.
Maszlee said to address the problem, the ministry would make a sugesstion to the Public Service Department to add more councellors to help teachers in managing stress.
He said currently councellors placed at District Education Office were not sufficient.
“Various activities will also be held to help teachers such as conflict management programme, emotional management programme and Civil Service Guidance Programme (Akrab),” he said.
