KUALA LUMPUR: A video of fire cadets placing their medals around their teacher's neck after winning a state-level marching competition has gone viral, tugging at the heartstrings of many.
The 30-second TikTok video, posted by user @carapzz (one of the cadets in the video), captures the heartfelt gesture as a show of appreciation for their teacher's dedication.
The fire cadets had been training since 2018 to compete in the state-level competition, which could have qualified them for the national competition organised by the Education Ministry.
However, they were unable to advance to the nationals. Instead, they will be competing in the 2024 National Fire Station Efficiency Drill Competition organised by the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department.
"Taking care of 35 people with 35 different personalities is no easy task. It requires patience, sacrifice, and a high level of commitment.
"Not everyone can endure being scolded, yelled at, punished, and training from morning until late evening. But these 35 individuals have shown remarkable mental and physical resilience.
"The wait since 2018 to reach the state-level has paid off. Although we didn't make it to nationals, Allah has blessed us with the opportunity to compete at the national level in the fire station competition," read the video caption by @carapzz.
The team remains proud of their achievements, particularly securing the championship title in the 2024 Johor Foot Drill Competition.
"Despite the setbacks, we still hold our title as overall champion in the 2024 Johor Foot Drill Competition. Good luck at the National Fire Station Competition! Remember, if you don't win at the Fire Station, you cadets owe me one."
The video, which has garnered over 275,000 views, has sparked numerous heartfelt comments highlighting the bond between the cadets and their teacher.
"I'm also a fire cadet teacher in Johor. Congratulations to the teacher for producing such outstanding students," commented one TikToker.
"Oh dear, I'm so emotional seeing their success. A beloved teacher. Congratulations to everyone!" added another user, @Siti Ahmad.
