JDT wishes 'my friend Malaysia' a happy national day

KUALA LUMPUR: Football club Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) posted a National Day wish on its Facebook page last night which has courted various criticism from Netizens.

With Malaysia celebrating its 61st Independence Day today, JDT wrote, "Happy national day to my friend Malaysia."

"Good night to all Bangsa Johor. Remember that concord is a blessing. Johor forever. Since 1885," it went on to say.

The post was accompanied with the picture of a Johor flag.

Folks on Facebook were not too happy with the post with one Johorean saying while he too was from the state, he was not happy with posts like these that did not appear to promote unity.

Another Facebook user observed that even Indonesia in wishing Malaysia a happy national day had shared a photo of the Jalur Gemilang.

There has been much controversy particularly on social media with regard to Johor and Malaysia as a whole.

Previously, former FAM president, Johor's Tunku Mahkota Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim made waves when he said in a live Facebook session in 2017, albeit in a lighthearted manner, "Pasukan negara anda semua, not my negara, I'm from Johor you know," with reference to Malaysia.
