KUALA LUMPUR: Allianz Malaysia took its employees on a hop-on hop-off tour of historical sites in the city recently, in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The lucky staff earned their tickets for the six-hour excursion, covering important landmarks such as Parliament building, Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and Dataran Merdeka, after taking part in the ‘Know Your Country Better’ contest.
“It is a special time at the office when Malaysia Day comes around.
"This year, our big surprise is the hop-on hop-off tour which is a great way to get reacquainted with the rich history that surrounds us,” said Allianz Malaysia Berhad chief executive officer Zakri Khir.
“The beauty behind celebrating this historical day is that no matter where our friends and colleagues are located, be it in Penang or all the way in Kota Kinabalu, and regardless of our skin colour, creed or religion... We are, at heart, one nation and one people... We are Malaysians,” said Zakri.
Malaysia Day marks the formation of Malaysia (the joining of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore) on September, 16, 1963. Singapore, however, broke away in 1965.
Apart from the tour, participants also took part in a host of activities including a ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ branch decoration contest and hidden talent (sketching) contest.
They received a goodie bag with popular childhood treats such as Apollo Chocolate Stick Wafer, Ice Gem biscuits, White Rabbit Creamy Candy, Haw Flakes, Popo’s Muruku Ikan and Chocolate 8.
Having previously worked with local social enterprise Projek57 on the #AllianzbersatuteguhUnity Ribbon campaign, employees were also encouraged to take photographs of themselves wearing the Unity Ribbon which would then be made into a collage to represent the diversity at Allianz Malaysia.
