Man feared drowned after falling off boat while fishing with 3 others

KOTA KINABALU: A man is missing while three others survived when their boat capsized off Sepanggar island here this morning.

During the incident at about 3.30am,Chong Cheon Kean, 48, was feared drown when he fell off the boat.

His 22-year-old son, Danny, said he went to the sea with his father and two other adults to fish at the island at 11.10pm last night.

“My father who was sitting at the back was moving to the front of the boat to cast bails but he fell off when waves hit the boat.

“At that time water went into the boat. The two friends and I tried to search for my dad but to no avail.

”After that we landed at Kampung Numbak, Sepanggar, before lodging a police report,” he told the NSTP.

Following the report, a search and rescue was launched by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency(MMEA), Fire and Rescue department, and the marine police as well as Sabah Parks divers and fishing community.

MMEA Sabah and Labuan director Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Some said the operation, which included three rescue boats, was conducted around Sepanggar island.
