2019 Budget: Penang Bridge toll abolished for motorcyclists

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will abolish tolls for motorcyclists on Penang's First and Second Bridges effective Jan 1 next year, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Lim, who is tabling the 2019 Budget, also said motorcyclists will no longer have to pay tolls on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link from Jan 1 onwards.

Lim added that the abolishment of the tolls would cost the government RM20 million a year.

"The government will also freeze toll hikes on all highways in cities next year. This will involve a financial implication of RM700 million," he said.

Lim also said the government has allocated RM240 million for the introduction of no-limit monthly passes worth RM100 to promote the use of public transportation.

He said these passes, which will be introduced on Jan 1, 2019, could be used for all RapidKL bus and rail services.
