KUALA LUMPUR: Pulau Pangkor in Perak will be made a duty free island to realise its true potential after Langkawi.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, when tabling the 2019 Budget, said the government was committed to making Pulau Pangkor “a duty-free island to realise the true potential of the island”.
He added that Langkawi as a duty-free island will be further expanded and tax-exempt facilities will be provided to duty-free shops at Swettenham Port in Penang to further promote the tourism cruises sector.
Lim also said the federal government will implement a 50 per cent share programme for the proceeds of collection of tourism tax received in the respective states.
“A RM100 million matching grant will be provided to private companies for international travel promotion and marketing programmes to increase tourist arrivals,” he added.
