Two major Kelantan rivers swell after non-stop heavy rain

KOTA BARU: Heavy, continuous rainfall since Monday has caused two rivers in the state to swell and breach their alert levels today.

According to the flood portal infobanjir.water.gov.my, the two rivers are Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Sungai Lebir in Tualang, Kuala Krai.

The water level of Sungai Golok was measured at 7.47m, which is 0.47m above its alert level of 7m; while Sungai Lebir was recorded at 28.50m, which is 1.50m above its alert level of 27m.

According to the portal, the measurements were taken at 10.30am today and that other rivers in the state are also rising, but less dramatically.

Despite the latest developments, the flood operations rooms of the state government and state police contingent headquarters have not opened as of 11am today.

Nevertheless, a police spokesman told the NSTP that all policemen are ready to face a possible first round of flooding in the state.
