Pahang fitness instructor aims for Guinness World Record for 'Longest non-stop Cardio'

LIPIS: Fitness instructor K. Jey Prabakaran Thevar is on a mission to secure global glory by etching his name into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Less than a year after setting a record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) and entering the Asia Book of Records (ABR) last week for the 'longest non-stop cardio workout session,' the 27-year-old is now on his next big feat.

The Kuala Lipis-born has set his eyes on entering the world record book in September this year with preparations already ongoing to ensure he remains in good health to sustain the long hours to complete the arduous routines.

"During the MBOR last year, I clocked 12 hours of non-stop exercise routines followed by 13 hours for the Asia Book of Records. I certainly want to set a new personal record for the Guinness Book of World Records.

"I was told that no one has attempted this category (non-stop cardio exercise) in the record books so I will set the benchmark if I manage to successfully execute the exercise routines," he said when contacted today.

The youngest of four siblings, Jey Prabakaran said he would not push himself too hard during the training sessions, fearing injuries could dampen and further delay his efforts to set the world record.

"I have been injury-prone and have already undergone three surgeries. Doctors have described my abdominal and back injury as chronic but I still managed to overcome the obstacles to set the MBOR last year.

"The ABR was initially planned in April this year but I was required to take extra rest due to a right shoulder injury. The Asia record was achieved on June 11," said Jey Prabakaran, who is fondly known as 'Dr Kjey'.

Jey Prabakaran said he began his quest for ABR from 7am till 2pm before resuming between 3pm to 10pm at a gymnasium here on June 11.

Jey Prabakaran, who received the Honorary Doctorate in social works at Dayspring Theological University in the United States in 2022, said his mother S.Sukunamalar, 66, and siblings have been his biggest motivation.

"I realised that they were worried when I attempted the records despite the injuries last year but instead of asking me to call off my efforts, they continued to encourage and daily checked on me to ensure that I was physically and mentally strong," he said.

Meanwhile, ABR Malaysia president M. Selvarani, said Jey Prabakaran has set the record for the 'longest non-stop cardio and weight lifting workout session' for some 13 hours including an one-hour break in between.

Selvarani, who presented ABR's certificate and plaque to Jey Prabakaran, said his dedication and perseverance has not only broken barriers but sets a remarkable example for fitness enthusiasts worldwide.

In July last year, Jey Prabakaran utilised more than 20 gym exercise machines and equipment including the treadmill, cross trainer, cycling machine, dumbbell and barbell to complete 12 hours of non-stop cardio exercise.
