SHAH ALAM: Thirty-five shops at 'Uptown' Shah Alam’s night bazaar at Section 24 here were completely destroyed in a massive blaze early today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) senior fire superintendent I, Mohd Rizal Buang, said 39 firemen from the Shah Alam, Kota Anggerik and Subang Jaya stations rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.37am.
"When they arrived, the fire was at its peak.
“(Firefighters fought the flames)… and the blaze was brought under control by 5.50am.
"A total of 28 shops at the first and second blocks were totally razed, while seven shops at the third block were 50 per cent burnt,” he said in a statement.
No casualty was reported.
Mohd Rizal said the department is investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred.
Today’s fire at Uptown Shah Alam is the third since 2014, when 196 shops were damaged.
