KULIM: Firemen took about 45 minutes to bring the fire at the Petronas M417 valve station in Lunas under control last night.
The 8.30pm incident occurred when methane gas which in the release pipeline at the site caught fire.
Kulim Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Hamizul Azwan Hamdan said fortunately, the incident took place in a palm oil plantation with no inhabitants.
He said a team arrived at the location at 8.37pm after receiving a distress call at 8.35pm.
He said the operation involved a six-man team and a fire engine from Kulim station, as well its emergency medical response (EMRS) team and Lunas’ volunteer firefighting team.
“Upon arrival, the personnel found that the fire was spreading and carried out an operation to prevent it from escalating.
“Fire was brought under control at 9.15pm and was extinguished at about 10pm,” he said.
Hamizul Azwan said there was no injuries reported.
