KUALA LUMPUR: Two Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) towers will be closed on Saturday as precaution during the rally against the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
In a statement today, DBKL said their staff have been instructed not to work that day or be in both towers during the event.
“All DBKL official vehicles parked in Menara DBKL 1, Menara DBKL 2 and Dataran DBKL will be relocated to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Department at KM4, Jalan Cheras.
“Contractors handling the cleaning and renovation services at the offices are not allowed to carry out any works or activities on that day.
“These instructions must be obeyed and all staff, officers, and contractors should be informed on the matter,” the statement read.
On Nov 23, the Prime Minister’s Office said the government would not ratify ICERD and would continue to uphold the Federal Constitution which contained the social contract that had been agreed upon by all races during the formation of this country.
On Dec 3, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan gave the green light for the anti-Icerd rally to be held at Jalan Raja on the condition that it will be conducted peacefully.
It was reported that more than 500,000 protestors are expected to take part in the rally.
