KOTA BHARU: It took four Civil Defence Force (APM) officers more than three hours to capture a giant lizard that weighed 76 kilogrammes and measured two metres in length.
The giant lizard was caught at about 1pm yesterday at Kampung Gemang, Jeli, near here, at a salak fruit orchard.
Private Nor Hamiludin Norhashim said they received a call informing them of a 'biawak gergasi' (giant lizard) from the orchard owner and rushed to the location.
"As soon as we arrived, we saw the lizard resting by some bushes and we figured this must be because it was full, considering its stomach looked quite big.
"When we approached, the lizard ran off and the minute we tried to capture it, it began acting agressively," Nor Hamiludin said when contacted, today.
He said initially only three officers were involved in the operation but when things started to get out of control with the lizard lashing its tail, another officer was roped in to help.
They eventually managed to capture the reptile and took it to the APM office in Jeli.
