SEREMBAN: Since its inception two months ago, the anti-litter prgramme by Negri Sembilan Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) has been receiving encouraging response from the public.
Its director, Mohd Zahir Shari said the programme had started to yield positive results as it received cooperation by the public in keeping the area clean.
“While I was in Japan for a work visit recently, I learned that many companies allocated 20 minutes for their employees to go out and pick up litter around the office building.
“I feel that this activity is suitable (and should be) inculcated in SWCorp work culture as a firm responsible to manage cleaning works,” he said when met at an anti-litter programme around Jalan Murugesu on Friday.
A total of 115 SWCorp employees took part in the programme which started at 8.30am.
He said the programme, carried out once a week, had garnered public interest including passers-by, as well as staff from goernment agencies and departments.
“We would sometimes see people joining us to pick up garbage. There were also government departments and agencies working us to carry out the programme.
“At times, we could also hear car horn honking by road users as a show of support for our efforts,” he said.
Mohd Zahir said the programme would be expanded to other areas in the state through collaborations with state agencies.
