SLIM RIVER: A lorry driver was killed in a two-lorry crash at Km 372 of the North-South (PLUS) Expressway north-bound near the Behrang rest and service area this morning.
According to Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, they received the distress call about the accident involving an oil tanker lorry and another lorry laden with retail goods at 8.51 am and three fire engines were rushed to the scene.
“When were arrived at the scene, the lorries were on fire and one of the drivers had met with a fiery death. Details about the victim have yet to be ascertained, we will update you once we have the information,” he said, adding that operations to put out the blaze were still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Muallim District Police chief Supt Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof in a brief statement said the oil tanker lorry was believed to have rammed into the back of the other lorry before it turned turtle and caught fire.
Earlier, PLUS spokesman said the north-bound stretch from Slim River to Sungkai is currently closed after an oil tanker lorry caught fire following an accident at Km 372 of the expressway this morning.
One of the lorries turned turtle and blocked the two-lane expressway, causing traffic congestion of three kilometres.
Those heading north are advised to take an alternative route before reaching Slim River. - Bernama
