Haj subsidy remains for first-time haj pilgrims: Mujahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will cover the subsidised cost for all first-time pilgrims under muassasah, including those who had appealed to perform the haj this year, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Mujahid in a press statement today said the decision was reached following discussions with TH board members.

“The decision by TH board members was made after taking into consideration various aspects including TH fiscal status for 2019.

“Therefore, with the latest announcement, the subsidised cost by TH for this year’s haj season is around RM400 million,” he said.

Mujahid said there had been conflicting claims made previously involving the issue of cost for pilgrims who had appealed, although no decision was made at the time.

On Feb 14, Mujahid announced that the cost for performing the haj for first-time pilgrims under muassasah remained at RM9,980 with the government subsidising the remaining RM12,920. – Bernama
