PUTRAJAYA: The number of suspected cases of Influenza A (H1N1) at Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) in Ipoh, Perak, rose to 102 as of Thursday night.
Meanwhile, four STAR students have tested positive for the highly-infectious virus, Bernama reported.
Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that all suspected cases – comprising 101 students and a teacher – are presenting with symptoms of respiratory infection including fever, sore throat and cough.
As of today, 51 students are in isolation at the school’s hostel and are being closely monitored by the ministry and the Perak Health Department; while three have been admitted to hospital.
Dr Dzulkefly said the students are in stable condition and authorities are awaiting their laboratory tests.
He added that in addition to monitoring the situation, the ministry is raising awareness on preventing the spread of H1N1, including “cough ethics”.
“Disinfection activities at the hostels have been conducted since Monday.
“Active case detection is continuing,’’ he said.
Dr Dzulkefly also advised the public not to worry unduly, as the situation is under control.
