PADANG TERAP: It took three Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel about 40 minutes to charm a 10-metre python weighing 90kg into submission at Kampung Jelutong here, early today.
The reptile was captured by Nurul Nadya Yahya, 25, Nur Ashila Zulkefli, 27 and Hasniza Yahya, 38 in response to an emergency call on the snake’s presence.
It is learnt that residents of Kampung Jelutong became aware of the python’s presence at about 2.45am when chickens in one of the villager’s coops began squawking and crowing incessantly.
A check by residents revealed the presence of the python, whose belly was full after having swallowed 10 eggs.
Padang Terap district APM officer Lieutenant Shukri Shuib said the three APM members arrived at the location at 3am and found the python still in the chicken coop.
He said it took the trio some 40 minutes to capture the snake, despite the reptile being docile after its feast.
“Our members managed to capture the python using special equipment.
“This is the largest and longest python Padang Terap APM members have captured this year.
“The python was taken to the APM office before it was handed over to the
Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan),” Shujri said in a statement.
