Albino python captured in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: The Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully captured a 4.26m, nearly 30kg albino reticulated python along Jalan Macalister today.

Northeast district civil defence officer Captain (PA) Muhammad Aizat Abdul Ghani said they received a public alert at 8am about the sighting of the snake near the traffic lights.

"Three personnel were dispatched immediately, and after 40 minutes, the python was safely captured," he said.

Upon inspection, Aizat confirmed the snake was not a pet but a wild albino reticulated python native to the area.

He said that the team faced initial challenges as the snake attempted to retreat into a hole, but after several attempts, it was successfully extracted and captured.

The reptile will be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.
