Late Chef Adamdidam's family surprised, touched by Socso payout

KOTA BARU: The family of celebrity chef Muhammad Adam Mahamed Ismail, who died on May 19, was presented with a payout from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) Survivor Pension Scheme here, today.

The cheque for RM2,000 was handed over by Kelantan Socso director Nora Yaacob to Adam's parents – Mahamed Ismail Mahamed Yusof, 69 and Bibi Asha Hukum Khan, 66, at the couple's house in Telipot here.

Muhammad Adam, popularly known as Adamdidam, died from a lung infection at age 29.

His eldest sister, Dr Nor Ashmiza Mahamed Ismail, 42, said that the family was surprised when told that Adam, the youngest of five siblings, had been making Socso contributions.

"We received a call from a state Socso officer two days after Adam passed away. The officer informed us that my brother had been making the (regular) contributions and as such, was eligible for a pension payment.

"This really surprised us, as we did not know that he had making the contribution and had the intention of helping his parents. We feel grateful and are proud of him," she said, adding that Adam was a good brother and filial son.

Nor Ashmiza also thanked Kelantan Socso for the payment.

Meanwhile, Nora said that the state Sosco's Prihatin Squad decided to make the visit to Adam’s family’s home after learning that he had been a Socso contributor since he began working in 2005.

"(Adam) is the first Kelantan celebrity this year to receive the contribution and his parents will receive a pension of RM526.60 each month," she added.
