SHAH ALAM: Another landmark appears in the capital state with the official launch of the Central i-City shopping centre by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today.
Spanning 940,000 sq feet with over 350 retail stores across six levels, the shopping centre is a joint venture project between Thai outfit Central Pattana Public Company Limited (CPN) and i-City Properties Sdn Bhd.
About RM850 million was invested to develop the community-focused shopping mall in the heart of Selangor’s Golden Triangle.
It offers a unique Thai experience to shoppers through the first Village Grocer supermarket in the country to feature Royal Thai Project products, apart from housing the first Sogo flagship department store outside of Kuala Lumpur, as well as having the largest Samsung Onyx screen in the world at TGV Cinemas.
Also present at the launch were Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin described Central i-City as Shah Alam and Selangor’s latest landmark which will realise his administration’s aim to make Selangor a smart state by 2025.
He said the collaboration between the two parties was beneficial to the state.
“The Thai counterpart has a wide network not just at home but also in Europe. This venture adds value to the investment sector in Selangor. It is able to provide not just job opportunities, but also room for commercial activities and housing as well as stimulating the state economy, especially Shah Alam."
He said Selangor was open and would always welcome more investments to transform Shah Alam to become a more vibrant city through commercial-friendly government policies.
“We are very pro-industry and pro-business. All our policies, especially transparency and good governance, will ease the investment process set to take place in the Golden Triangle,” said Amirudin, adding that plans for an international hotel chain was in the pipeline.
