Odour pollution: Over a million consumers in KL, Selangor face water supply disruption

KUALA LUMPUR: More than one million consumers in seven areas in the Klang Valley will be affected by an unscheduled water supply interruption and low pressure due to odour pollution in the Sungai Selangor raw water source.

The odour pollution resulted in a total shut down of all three Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plants; the LRA SSP Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) customer relationship and communication department head Abdul Raof Ahmad said a total of 1,133 areas involving 1,166,842 customer accounts in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang or Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat will be affected by this unscheduled water supply interruption.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and every effort is being undertaken to minimise the impact of interruption to affected customers,” he said.

He urged consumers to get official announcements and the latest status via Air Selangor mobile application and www.syabas.com.my.

Information will be updated from time to time.

This water disruption is unrelated with an earlier announcement by Air Selangor on Wednesday in which a total of 758 areas in Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, and Kuala Langat will be affected by a scheduled water supply disruption between 36 and 84 hours beginning 9am on July 23.

It said the water disruption will affect 758,570 account holders due to improvement works on the water supply system at Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant (LRA SSP1).
