JEMPOL: Meet Mahathir and Najib. They both love fishing and hip hop music, and they were both born in 1995 on the same day and date.
The 24-year-old twins were given the names by their father, Norkaferi Ahmad, 56, who was inspired by the prime minister and defence minister respectively at that time.
According to Mahathir, their father was serving in the army based in Sungai Besi Camp back in 1995.
“He didn't know my mother was carrying twins. Imagine his shock when we were born. He had not even prepared the most suitable names for us.
“But he finally settled for Mahathir and Najib, in honour of the two political figures at that time,” he said, adding that they were born at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Mahathir said just like any other siblings, they too had their fair share of fights and quarrels. He added that their conflicts, however, didn't usually last long and they would normally make peace again in no time.
“It's a normal situation in a family. We don't take it to heart,” he said when contacted by NSTP.
The twins are definitely inseparable as they both love fishing and hip hop music, and they also work together with an oil and gas company based in Bintulu, Sarawak.
“Here, we share a room provided by our employer. Since we are in the same line of work, we normally get to work together most of the times. We had been sent to various places such as Melaka, Johor, Terengganu, and even to Brunei and Singapore,” he said.
He added that due to their names, they were not spared from being teased by friends, but they didn't take it seriously.
“There was one time when both of us got into a quarrel with each other. Our friends started teasing us and made funny remarks about our sour relationship,” he added.
In conjunction with the upcoming 62nd Merdeka Day, Mahathir expressed his hopes to see a greater Malaysia and for all people to continue living in peace and harmony.
