IGP: Inquest into Rawang shootout soon

GEORGE TOWN: An inquest will be conducted into the shooting of three men in Rawang last Saturday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said today.

He said since the Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the inquest, he would prefer that the process be done as soon as possible.

“We welcome the inquest. Everything will be answered during the course of the inquest.

“We will ensure a fair process for all parties,” he told a press conference here today.

Present were Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd and state police chief Datuk T. Narenasagaran.

Abdul Hamid said he was aware that there were many allegations being made in social media into the shooting incident.

“All those who made the allegations will be called up during the inquest,” he added.

It was reported that three suspected serial robbers were killed in a shootout with police at Km22 of Jalan Rawang last Saturday.

The gun battle immediately followed a seven-kilometre high-speed chase.

Following the shootout, a search of the vehicle uncovered two semi-automatic pistols, three machetes and several face masks.

Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin had confirmed that two of the three people who were killed were members of Gang 08 who had been involved in numerous robbery cases in the state.

It was reported that Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture (Madpet) had called for inquests to be conducted on all deaths caused by police shootings.
