Dr M chides MPs for being absent from Dewan Rakyat sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today questioned the professionalism of some members of parliament who had been absent from the parliamentary sessions.

"We would talk to the MPs. This is the second time there is not enough quorum (in this sitting), we will have to talk to the MPs.

"They were anxious to become candidates before the elections, but after they were elected, they don't seem to be very serious about serving the people.

"There are many other ways to express their views. If they don't like me they can say so openly.

"I'm open to criticisms. When we become a leader we must expect this," he told reporters when asked about the sitting being halted due to the lack of quorum yesterday and Oct 17.

On a separate matter, Dr Mahathir echoed PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sentiment when the latter said anyone who wanted to be the prime minister shouldn't do it through the back door.

"We agree that it must be through the right way," said Dr Mahathir, who had earlier launched the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2019.
