Kelantan DID: Golok river swells after heavy rain

KOTA BARU: Heavy rainfall since Wednesday has caused the Golok river in Rantau Panjang and Tanah Merah to breach its alert level this morning.

According to Kelantan Drainage and Irrigation Department's portal, the river in Rantau Panjang rose to 7.46 metre (m), which is above its alert level of 7m. In Jenob, Tanah Merah, it was measured at 22.18m (alert level is 21.50m).

At Press time, no evacuation measure has been taken as authorities continue to monitor the situation in the state.

Meanwhile, several low-lying areas in Gua Musang, Kuala Krai and here were inundated by floodwater following heavy and continous rainfall over the past few days.

Among the affected areas were Kampung Chenulang, Kampung Jering Pasir and Kampung Kebun Pisang (all in Kuala Krai), Kampung Sokor and Jalan Gua Musang-Jelawang (in Gua Musang) and Kampung Salor.

Motorists were prevented from crossing the Stelu bridge in Gua Musang after it was damaged by the floods on Wednesday.
