ALOR SETAR: Two rivers in Kedah have surpassed danger levels following over an hour of heavy rainfall today.
According to the official Infobanjir public website, Sungai Sedim recorded a water level of 37.83 metres at 7:45pm, exceeding the danger level of 36.5m previously, with water levels continuing to rise.
Additionally, Sungai Gurun in Kampung Perupok also showed an increase in water level, reaching 4.11m, surpassing the previous danger level of 3.5m, with the trend still rising at the same time.
Meanwhile, Sungai Perik in Kampung Perik, Padang Terap recorded 11.6m, exceeding the warning level of 11m.
Yan District Civil Defence Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Muhammad Zul Izzi Zulkifli, said that so far, two housing areas in the district, namely Taman Selat and Taman Samudera, have been affected by rising waters.
He said Taman Selat involves two families, while Taman Samudera has impacted seven families.
At present, no temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened in the district.
Earlier reports indicated that more than an hour of heavy rain in the area caused strong currents at Seri Perigi and Titi Hayun waterfalls, leading to river overflows and flash floods in four villages.
