KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning Jan 1, toll collection at 10 Plus Expressways Berhad (Plus) toll plazas nationwide operating the open toll system will implement toll collection via Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Touch ‘n Go technology.
The toll plazas are:
Jitra (North-South Expressway)
Lunas (Butterworth-Kulim Expressway)
Kubang Semang (Butterworth-Kulim Expressway)
Penang Bridge
Mambau (Seremban-Port Dickson Highway)
Lukut (Seremban-Port Dickson Highway)
Kempas (North-South Expressway)
Perling (Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway)
Lima Kedai (Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway)
Tanjung Kupang (Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway)
The RFID is open to all Class 1 or private vehicles.
Class 1 vehicles are light vehicles with 2 axles and 3 or 4 wheels, except taxis.
Plus chief operating officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said that the RFID Touch 'n Go system uses special RFID stickers attached to a vehicle connected to the Touch' n Go eWallet, and is the latest payment mode option.
“It also makes it easier for highway customers to (top up) online without having to go to the reload centre.
“At the same time, more payment options are being developed, either through debit or credit cards, as well as other eWallets.
“Highway customers will have more options to change the payment mode when other facilities become available in the near future,” he said.
Zakaria Ahmad added that the existing toll payment mode of Touch 'n Go or the SmartTAG card are still accepted at Plus highways.
Meanwhile, the RFID system at the Sultan Iskandar Building (Johor Causeway) Toll can only be used for Road Charges (RFID Vehicle Entry Permit tag) exclusively for Singapore-registered vehicles.
The use of the RFID is expected to ease traffic flow at toll plazas, as motorists will not have to stop and swipe their cards on the card reader.
Other benefits include:
- Highway users can make toll payments more easily
- No maintenance cost, as the RFID sticker does not require batteries
- The RFID sticker is attached to the vehicle and not easily lost
The sticker is linked to the Touch ’n Go eWallet, which RFID users can top up through online applications.
Users do not need to go to customer service centres or other locations.
There are now more than 830,000 RFID users.
RFID stickers are available at:
- 18 Fitment Centres Touch ‘n Go (//rfidregister.touchngo.com.my/fitment-centres)
- 112 mobile Fitment Centres (//www.tngdigital.com.my/rfid)
Toll collection via RFID is the initial step towards the implementation of Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) on highways and expressways nationwide.

“Plus would also like to inform motorists that transactions at toll plazas utilising the RFID Touch ‘n Go technology at 83 closed toll plaza systems at highways managed by it will be implemented from April 1 onwards.
“The closed toll plaza is a system in which toll rates are based on the class of vehicle and the distance travelled when a vehicle enters and exits a highway,” added Zakaria.
