Mechanic fined RM100 for insulting toll attendant, pleads guilty to meth use

KAJANG: A mechanic was today fined the maximum RM100 for shouting indecent remarks at a toll attendant and kicking the counter of a toll plaza near Jalan Batu 9 in Cheras on Sunday.

Magistrate Nurul Hafzan Ab Aziz sentenced Abdul Rahim Ramlan, 31, after he pleaded guilty to verbally abusing Ridwana Umairah Mahadi, 22, at 1.38am on Nov 3 with the intention to disrupt peace.

She ordered him to serve a day in jail if he fails to pay the fine for the offence under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which carries a maximum RM100 fine.

Rahim, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency.

The incident went viral after Rahim verbally abused Ridwana and damaged the toll booth when he was reprimanded for forcefully tapping the Touch 'n Go card reader.

Deputy public prosecutor K.S Rinisha Priyya asked the court to mete out a heavy penalty as a lesson.

At the Sessions Court, Rahim pleaded guilty to a charge of consuming methamphetamine at 9pm at the Kajang district police headquarters' Narcotics Crime Investigation Department on Nov 4.

The charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, read with Section 38B, is punishable under Section 39C(1)(e) with a prison term not less than five years and not more than seven years, a maximum of three lashes and up to three years of police surveillance.

Rahim has a record of two similar drug offences.

Deputy public prosecutor Faelly Jeffrey Lanjungan did not offer bail and asked the court to set a mention date pending pathology and chemical reports.

Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid denied bail and set Dec 13 for mention.
