KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has activated its operation centre yesterday in conjunction with the Kimanis by-election.
State MACC director Karunanithy Y. Subbiah said the centre, which was based at the commission’s office here, would operate round the clock.
“It began operations ahead of nomination day for the Kimanis by-election on Jan 4 (tomorrow).
“The centre will operate 24 hours throughout the campaigning period until election day.
“Officers will monitor activities throughout the election,” he said after the commission’s senior officers reported for duty at the Sabah Chief Minister’s Department and Integrity Unit.
Karunanithy said there would be officers and supervisors to be in-charge of the operation centre besides personnel on the ground. People could contact 088-488381 for information.
Earlier, he said the placement of the two senior officers was a decision by the commission, especially Chief Commissioner Latheefa Koya.
“This is a better way to assist the state government in improving integrity among civil servants so that there will be checks and balances in the government administration.
“Both will be deployed at the Chief Minister’s Office for three years. After that, if their performance is good, it will be up to the state government to extend their contract.”
