GEORGE TOWN: Police are probing a viral video showing a Proton Preve dragging a motorcycle for about 1km here, last night.
The three-minute video shows a group of motorcyclists honking at the car’s driver, desperately trying to alert him to the motorcycle entangled with the car, and urging him to stop his vehicle.
But the driver seems oblivious, and continues on for about 1km from Jalan Gurdwara to Jalan Sungai Pinang, before finally coming to a stop.
It is learnt that the 53-year-old driver was en route to Jalan Sungai Pinang when he knocked into the motorcycle, which had been parked by the side of Jalan Gurdwara, next to a nasi kandar shop.
"The motorcycle became stuck under the car, (but the driver did not seem to be aware of it). He continued to drive, dragging the machine with the car,” northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said, today.
He added that police later sent the driver to the Penang Hospital to have his blood alcohol level tested, before detaining him to facilitate an investigation.
“The driver was later released on bail,” Soffian said.
The case is being investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
