SRI AMAN: After more than a decade of delay, Sri Aman Hospital is finally slated to be fully operational by June next year.
Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said the hospital constructed at a cost of RM175 million, is currently 82.5 per cent completed.
“It has entered the electrical works and interior fitting stage and will take another eight to 10 months to be ready.
“After that, my ministry will take over the hospital for testing and commissioning purposes to ensure all operations are running smoothly.
“We hope it can start to serve the people by the middle of next year,” he told reporters after visiting the site here yesterday.
The hospital, he added, has the potential to become a leading health facility for residents in the surrounding areas, including Lubok Antu, Simunjan and Betong.
Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak approved the project in 2007 and the first phase of clearing and piling work on the 51-acre site was completed in August 2013.
The construction of the 103-bed hospital only started in 2016 and was scheduled to be completed by end of 2018.
Last year, Works Minister Baru Bian directed his ministry officials to ensure that the Sri Aman district hospital project is not delayed any further.
