Another drunk driver kills two youths in Penang car-motorcycle crash

BUTTERWORTH: A car driven by a woman believed to be under the influence of alcohol rear-ended a motorcycle, killing its two passengers, at Km13 of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR), heading towards Sungai Dua, early today.

The deceased have been identified as rider Muhamad Syaiful Hilmi Rosidi, 21, and his pillion rider, Muhammad Amin Najmi Azaman, 19.

Both youths – friends who hailed from the same kampung – died on the spot in the 2.30am accident.

It is learnt that the 47-year-old Toyota Vios driver – a health product salesperson – was en route to her mother’s house in Kepala Batas after a night out at a karaoke centre when the accident occurred.

“When she reached the scene, she rear-ended the motorcycle, causing both victims to fall off their machine.

“The motorcycle also caught fire.

“Both victims died on the spot due to serious head and bodily injuries,” said Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor.

He added that the driver will be remanded today to facilitate an investigation into the incident; and that the remains of the victims were sent to the Kepala Batas Hospital for post-mortems.

This is the second such accident to occur in Penang in just 72 hours.

On Sunday, a drunk driver rammed his Perodua Alza into the rear of a motorcycle, killing the rider and seriously injuring the pillion passenger.
