Dr Mahathir leaves Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has left Istana Negara, at 6.19pm.

The Langkawi MP was granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, for an hour and a half, to inform His Majesty on the country’s latest political development.

The meeting also follows Dr Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman.

A palace official was heard playing the trumpet as Dr Mahathir was leaving the palace compound in a black Proton Perdana.

He was seen smiling and waving at the media personnel waiting outside.

Earlier, he was seen entering through the palace gates in a black Proton Perdana with an entourage at 4.40pm.

It is understood that Barisan Nasional and Pas MPs will be seeking an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

At 1pm today, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Dr Mahathir has resigned from his post.
