KUALA LUMPUR: China-based companies, operating in Malaysia, have come forward to aid the nation’s fight against the Covid-19 infection.
Backing a call from the Chinese Embassy here, China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commission (EPCC) contractor of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project donated an assortment of medical supplies in the fight against the pandemic.
Accompanied by CCC-ECRL Managing Director Bai Yinzhan, China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian presented the assortment to Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min.
The items include 3,000 N95 face masks, 2,000 KN90 face masks, 20,000 surgical face masks and 1,200 medical goggles.
CCC-ECRL said a shipment of 2,000 test kits will be arriving Malaysia shortly.
These RT-PCR Detection Kits were developed and produced by Shenzhen-based BGI Genomics, and were widely used in the front line of China's fight against the epidemic.
Tian said it was just a few days ago that the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia urged its members to donate supplies or otherwise to support Malaysia in its fight against Covid-19.
“I am glad to see today that CCC-ECRL has acted proactively and is the first to answer the call. The Embassy has been reaching out to many parties, and in the next few days, we will see more aids arriving,” he said.
Tian added that since the outbreak of Covid-19, CCC-ECRL has put in various precautionary and preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of its staff and work sites while promptly procured medical supplies to provide practical support to the Malaysian Government in its epidemic control and prevention efforts.
Yinzhan meanwhile said the company would continue to stay true to their belief in creating value and giving back to the society.
“Through the donation of medical supplies, we will ride through the Covid-19 storm with Malaysia together.”
Yingzhan said the company would continue monitoring the epidemic development in Malaysia.
He added that CCC-ECRL is in close contact with medical supplies manufacturers and logistic providers, and pledges to procure more supplies to meet the local needs.
“To quote a Malay idiom quoted by Tian who said bukit sama didaki, lurah sama dituruni! (Going through both the good and bad times together!), we will continue to give our support for the excellent bilateral relationship between Malaysia and China. Together, we will win this fight,” said Yingzhan.
