Police hand out RM1,000 fine for violating MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning today, police will issue compound notices to Movement Control Order (MCO) violators.

Federal police Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abullah Sani said the issuing of the compund notices was in line with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

He said those found flouting the MCO would be brought to the police station for further action.

The compound will be issued at the police station and not at the roadblocks.

He said violators will be given two weeks to settle the RM1,000 compound. Failure to do so will land them in court.

“For those who refuse to pay upon receiving the compound, they can request for prosecution," he told a press conference at police headquarters Bukit Aman, here, today.

Acryl Sani said the compound was fixed at RM1,000 and violators need to make the payment at Health Ministry’s offices.

“Don’t take this lightly as there is no discount for the offences. It's not worth paying the compound. Adhere to the MCO and stay at home," he said.

Meanwhile, as of April 7, he said 66 policemen have been tested positive for Covid-19 and 1,225 more are under quarantine.

“Among those quarantined are 155 senior police personnel, 654 rank-and-file as well as 381 family members.” he said.
