ALOR STAR: The state government has postponed the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) pending a decision by a special state Security Working Committee meeting on Covid-19 on Tuesday.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the state government will fine-tune requirements and guidelines for the federal government's CMCO, to ensure it is suitable for the state's needs.
"The state government intends to protect Kedah's status as a green zone as no active Covid-19 case has been detected in any district.
"Therefore, the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order will be postponed until a decision is reached by the state Security Working Committee (Special Covid-19) Meeting on May 5," he said in a statement here tonight.
Mukhriz said the stand the state government is taking is meant to guarantee that Kedah remains a Covid-19 green zone; and to ensure that the people are protected from any further infection of the virus.
He said the safety and welfare of the people will not be compromised, and he urged the people to continue to stay at home while practicing social distancing.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday that the CMCO will begin on Monday and will the resumption of operations of businesses in most economic sectors.
