KAJANG: A 31-year-old policeman was killed while manning a Movement Control Order (MCO) roadblock near the Kajang Selatan Toll Plaza on the Lekas Expressway, early this morning.
In the 2.11am incident, a Toyota Hilux, driven by a 44-year-old who was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, crashed into Corporal Safwan Muhammad Ismail and a few parked police cars.
It is learnt that the impact of the crash had sent the victim flying several metres up in the air, before he fell and was pinned underneath the suspect's 4WD vehicle.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the victim who is attached to the district police's Prosecution and Law Division (D5) sustained severe head injuries before he succumbed to it at the scene.
He said the victim's body was sent to the Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem.
"Initial investigation showed the driver was speeding and was intoxicated when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to crash into the MCO roadblock on the Lekas highway, south-bound," he said.
He added that the suspect who was also injured in the crash is also receiving treatment at the same hospital and has yet to lodge a report.
"Based on a report from the person in charge of the MCO roadblock, police have already opened an investigation paper over the incident," he said.
