IPOH: The Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) Ministry today denied that there were mistakes in the calculation and billing adjustment made by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.
Its minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the calculation was made based on the guidelines set by the Energy Commission(EC) and TNB had no right to increase the bill.
"TNB can't calculate the bill arbitrarily," he said when commenting on complaints by customers over unusually high electricity bill charges during MCO.
He said this after visiting the Energy Commission Office in Jalan Greentown here. Also present was ST chief executive officer, Razib Dawood.
Shamsul Anuar added that the ministry would explain how the amount was derived so the people could get a better picture.
"I have informed TNB and they will open more TNB counters beginning June 1, so the people can go there and get explanations. If they are still dissatisfied, they can refer to the commission," he said.
TNB has informed all users that once meter reading operations resumed, all bills would be adjusted accordingly.
Meter readings were not allowed during the MCO as it required TNB meter readers to enter premises and houses, thus bills were based on the month prior to the enforcement of the MCO.
