KUALA LUMPUR: More than 300,000 disabled persons and single mothers will receive a one-off financial assistance worth RM300 to lighten their burden, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
The prime minister said the social assistance support for vulnerable groups was an initiative under the Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) and would be distributed before Hari Raya Aidiladha.
"The government is always concerned about the welfare of vulnerable groups such as the disabled and single mothers.
"Therefore, more than 300,000 of them listed under the Social Welfare Department will receive this one-off aid," he said during a live televised address today.
Muhyiddin added that the government would also provide grants for relevant registered non-governmental organisations which support these vulnerable groups.
He also announced a Penjana GLC Community initiative, to encourage government-linked companies to adopt one community and implement a social-economic development project with them.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin introduced a Peka B40 healthcare support initiative to support the healthcare needs of low-income groups.
This involves an allocation of RM50 million to fund health screenings and medical device assistance.
