Penang may not enforce RMCO just yet

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will be enforcing the newly announced Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) once the state fine tunes the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on the matter in the coming week.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government would hold a Penang Security Council Committee meeting on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

In the meantime, the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will still be enforced in the state.

"The phase by phase reopening of economic, social, cultural, education, and religious sectors will lead to normalcy post-Covid-19.

"A Penang Security Council Committee meeting will be convened on June 9 to review the implementation of the RMCO. A statement will be made after the meeting," he said in a statement today.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that CMCO will end on Tuesday and will be replaced with RMCO from Wednesday onwards.

RMCO will run until Aug 31 with more lenient restrictions and reopening of other economic sectors and activities.

Amongst the activities allowed during RMCO are interstate travel and domestic travels while Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration and Qurban (sacrificial) activities are also permitted with certain SOPs.
