KUALA LUMPUR: Puchong Kinrara resident Mohd Khairul Helmy Mohd Din is pondering the situation which will require him to walk up and down from his apartment on the fifth floor next week.
While the 30-year-old is relieved by the early notice of water-supply disruption in his area from July 14 to 17, he is also concerned about the availability of water tankers.
Khairul is among those who will be affected during the four-day Selangor River Treatment Plant (LRA) Phase 3 (LRA SSP3) upgrading works starting July 14, involving 420,000 user accounts in 290 areas across five regions — Petaling, Klang, Gombak, Kuala Langat and Kuala Lumpur.
"I had experienced this a couple of times. Before this, I did not have time to store water and had to rely on the water tankers.
"It is exhausting since I need to go up and down my floor several times to refill the buckets.
"But at least the head start is helpful for us to predict how much water we need to store and use. What about the elderly? We try to help them out as neighbours, as much as we can."
Sharing a similar concern was Mohd Akmal Azizi Mohamad, 29, who said it would be a hassle for him and his family to head out to work and continue with daily chores such as laundry and cooking.
Akmal, who lives with his parents and older brother in Taman Puchong Permai, said the early notice would give him ample time to stock up on water.
"Usually we will get the notice a day or two (before the disruption) and it is difficult to store water since we don't have much time.
"Sometimes the water supply just stopped and we were only informed on the same day. It is great to get the notice early this time. Hopefully, the disruption will not be prolonged.
"I'm not sure if our area will get the water tankers. I need to check on that online."
Schoolteacher Beatrice Nita Jay, 28, who lives in Pandamaran, Klang with seven colleagues, said it was difficult to estimate how much water they would need to store if there were no updates on the water tankers.
"Since there are seven of us, we will start getting more containers to store water which hopefully will be enough.
"The early notice helps us to prepare, but again, most of us are working.
"During school time until the evening, there would not be anyone at home to get the water supply from the mobile tankers. Hopefully, updates on the water tankers will be available during the days we are off so we can fill up our containers."
Zulfadli Zulkifli, 32, a father of two, is not worried about the water disruption as his apartment management, Vista Lavender, provided supply whenever there was a water disruption.
"They have always ensured that the residents have enough water supply. There was one occasion when we had no water supply for a week but the apartment had enough water.
"But of course, we will take the necessary steps to store water as well, in case anything happens."
