KOTA KINABALU: Former state minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has been appointed as the new chairman of Universiti Malaysia Sabah's (UMS) Board of Directors.
His appointment took effect yesterday, replacing Datuk Md Sidek Ahmad.
In a statement issued by UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin, the varsity was confident that Masidi will provide best services for UMS's excellence at the national and international level.
Masidi received his appointment letter from Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad two days ago.
Masidi was a former Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister in charge of state education.
He holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of London and was registered as a Barrister-at-Law with honours at Lincoln Inn, London
From 1994 to 2004, Masidi served as chairman at the Institute for Development Studies Sabah. He also became a member of the Board of Directors at Sabah Development Bank during this period.
In politics, Masidi has been the elected representative for Karanaan state constituency since 2004 until today.
