Penang's first UTC to begin operations Monday

GEORGE TOWN: Penang's first Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), which completed construction last month, will open its doors on Monday.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the Penang government received the green light from the Finance Ministry to begin operations of the Komtar UTC.

A total of RM20 million was invested by both the Finance Ministry and the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in the project.

"Ten agencies, including the Public Service Commission, Immigration Department and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), will be operating (at the UTC) from this Monday.

"A few more agencies will operate there soon within two weeks of the opening," he said at a press conference, today.

UTC Komtar will be will operating at Level 2 and 3 of the George Town landmark.

It will operate daily from 8am to 9pm on weekdays, and 8am to 5pm on weekends, with lunch breaks only on Friday, from 12.15pm to 2.45pm.

The outlet will be closed during national and state public holidays.

"the UTC can be an added value to the iconic building, and also be a catalyst to revitalise… businesses there," he added.

Also present was PDC senior deputy general manager Datuk Yeoh Lean Huat.
