Kindergarten teacher shows her love for the country with Rumah Merdeka

BALIK PULAU: There is a house located at Kampung Perlis known to the locals as 'Rumah Merdeka'.

Anyone who drives past the two-storey kampung house would want to stop for a moment and take pictures with the house, dressed in Jalur Gemilang flags and other patriotic-themed replicas.

Normala Md Desa, 57, a kindergarten teacher, takes decorations for her home for Merdeka seriously and began decorating it two weeks ago.

"Before this, I stayed at Gelugor quarters and I did the same by decorating my house. When I moved here three years ago, I started doing the same to express my love for the country," she said when met at her house here today.

Normala said it was difficult to get enough supply of the flags this year and sought help from the district Information Department.

Some personnel from the department also offered to assist her with her decoration.

"It is more than just flying the Jalur Gemilang," she said about her efforts.

"In the evening, I like to sit outside to look at the decorations. It evokes a great sense of patriotism and I will continue to do it every year," she added.

She said her fourth child, Nurul Nadiah Tajuddin, 23, wanted to follow her footsteps by decorating the family home.
