KUALA LUMPUR: A new Covid-19 cluster that originated from a restaurant in Titiwangsa, here, has been identified.
Named the Maju Cluster, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it has so far recorded three cases.
He said the first two cases were reported on Aug 16 (Case 9,176 and Case 9,177) involving workers of the restaurant who were identified through random Covid-19 screening tests on workers in premises around the city.
"From contact tracing, we found a new case from this cluster involving a customer who dined at the restaurant. The person had symptoms such as cough and headache since Aug 17 and was sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"Currently, a total of 672 individuals have been screened, including 16 workers and 656 customers. From this, three cases were positive, and 669 were negative.
"Active case detection has been activated and contact tracing screening is still ongoing. Disinfection and sanitisation have been carried out at the restaurant," he said.
Meanwhile, the ministry reported three new cases from the Tawar cluster in Kedah.
Noor Hisham said 58 cases had been identified from the cluster so far.
As of noon today, a total of 2,733 individuals from the cluster had been screened.
"We have screened 2,256 individuals in Kedah, where 47 cases tested positive, 1,985 individuals tested negative, and 224 individuals are still awaiting results.
"In Penang, a total of 466 have been screened, where 11 tested positive, 430 negative, while the remaining 25 are still awaiting results.
"In Perak, 11 individuals were screened and all tested negative. Case detection and contact tracing are still ongoing for this cluster. The ministry will provide updates on this situation from time to time," he said.
