KUALA LUMPUR: With a pregnant wife craving for mango fresh from a tree, a Poslaju employee tried his luck when he saw a house with a fruiting mango tree, by leaving a note for the owner.
"Salam tuan rumah, pos laju ni, boleh saya minta buah mangga? Esok saya datang ambil, isteri mengandung!" read the contents of the note written by Mohammad Zuhelmy Ibrahim.
(Hi, can I ask for a mango? I can pick it up tomorrow, my wife is pregnant!)
What shocked the 26-year-old postman was when he discovered that not only would he be able to satisfy his wife's cravings, but that the owner of the house had left him a bag full of mangoes the very next day, with a reply note.
"Abg Poslaju, saya dah petik mangga yang abang nak. Ambik kat rak kasut tempat abang letak barang poslaju ari tu. Thank you," read the note signed "Tuan Rumah".
(I have plucked the mangoes you wanted. It's on the shoe rack where you placed the parcel the other day. Thank you.)
Speaking to Harian Metro, Mohammad Zulhelmy said he had noticed the mango tree previously as he always delivered packages to the house in Taman Kinrara, Puchong.
However, the owner of the house was usually not at home when he delivered their packages, so he took to leaving them a note to ask if he could have a mango for his wife, Afrah Wan Sulaiman, who is seven months pregnant with their first child.
She had seen a mango tree bearing fruit somewhere in Puchong earlier and told him she did not want store-bought mangoes.
Not wanting to disappoint her, he promised that he would do his best to fulfil her wish.
"When I delivered a package to the house the next day, I saw a note next to the mailbox that there was a bag of mangoes for me. I looked and there were six mangoes in the bag," he said.
Mohammad Zuhelmy said he had only shared his story on his Whatsapp status, not knowing at the time that the owner's child had also shared the story on Twitter.
"I am not active on Twitter and I only knew about it from a friend after the posting had gone viral. After that, I looked for the Twitter posting to express my gratitude to them.
"Throughout the two years I have worked as a postman in this area, I have only met the owner of this house once, I am so grateful that they understood and were willing to fulfil my wife's wish.
"Given the opportunity, I would like to meet them in person to say thank you," he said.
Meanwhile, Afrah said she was really happy that she managed to taste fresh mangoes straight from a tree.
"I am really thankful to the owner of the house who kindly gave us the mangoes," Afrah told Harian Metro.
